IMMEDIATE TASKS
VIVA Foundation For Children With Cancer is a Singapore-based charity which aims to translate the high cure rate of about 90% for childhood leukemia achieved at St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, USA; into Singapore and the whole region where the cure rate in some countries are low. In May 2006, a memorandum of understanding was signed between St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, National University of Singapore (NUS), National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore and VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer (VIVA).
The first project which is to renovate an existing ward and turn it into a children’s cancer center at NUH has been completed earlier this year. It is called the Viva-University Children’s Cancer Center.
The Foundation's next task is to raise funds to kick start strategic programmes in partnership with St Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the treatment of childhood leukemia and cellular therapy, clinical and translational research and the training of doctors and nurses from Singapore and the whole region at the Viva-University Children’s Cancer Center.
Children with cancer are struck down in the innocence of childhood and are robbed of the promise that we all take for granted, i.e., that they will always have the opportunity to grow up and fulfill their dreams. We would like to give the children with cancer the best chance to make their dreams come true and live happily after.
